Holding the Book - A child's life in rural Haiti
For grades K-2, Jennifer reads Josias, Hold the Book and discusses children's lives in rural Haiti (30 minutes). For grades 3-5, Jennifer reads her book and discusses both children's lives in rural Haiti and how she researched, revised, and wrote the book (40 minutes). PowerPoint projector and screen needed.
Creating Timeless Characters
For small groups of grades 3-5 (no more than 25 children), Jennifer discusses three classic children's literature characters and gives examples of how their authors brought them to life. She then leads the children through an exercise to create their own timeless characters (40 minutes). Pencils and paper needed.
